Dreams Come True, a national UK charity, was formed in 1988 with the sole mission of helping fulfill the dreams of terminally and seriously ill children. A dream brings joy to these children that often have nothing to look forward to but rounds and rounds of painful treatments or the prospect of living with a long-term debilitating disease. As a sign of support, Ready To Leave donates 30p from every sale made towards Dreams Come True. A dream can be as unique as a child’s imagination. Children’s dreams have ranged from trips to Disney, to swimming with dolphins, meeting sport’s heroes, to more unusual requests, like seeing bananas growing on a tree. Some dreams are quite moving in their simplicity, like a child who wants to be able to play on a swing or ride on a tricycle. All the dreams are touching and exceptional, and Dreams Come True endeavour to make them as special for the child as we possibly can. The average cost of a dream is in the region of £1,500 and in the past 18 years, Dreams Come True have helped over 3,000 children see their dreams become a reality! The charity's vision for the coming year is to fulfill a dream a day and to be recognised as the best in the field, for the quality of dreams that they provide and their commitment to having a personal relationship with the families and supporters. Quite simply, a dream fulfilled can give the child and the family something to focus on, without it revolving around the illness. It can bring a release from the pressures and traumas of the illness.
